What is Step Lightly?
Step Lightly is a short puzzle-platformer horror game inspired by Little Nightmares. It was made in 9 weeks by Water Leaks Studio – a team of 20 students from The Game Assembly Malmö. This game was developed in our own in-house custom C++ game engine bean and levels were designed in- and exported from the Unreal editor.

Steam Achievements
Just like with Unbound, we decided to launch Step Lightly on Steam! But this time was different, this time we wanted to properly integrate the Steam API and implement Achievements into our game.
I created a define and build configuration with our build system Premake to make sure we don’t depend on Steam and can easily build without it. I implemented all the authentication and communication through the Steam API and made a simple interface where you could just call a function with a string key to unlock the achievement with said key. Very simple and works flawlessly!


Discord/Steam Rich Presence
One weekend I was bored. So I integrated the Discord Partner SDK into our game. This way all your friends can see that you’re playing the game and they can even see which level you’re in!
I also implemented Steam’s version of Rich Presence so your friends on either platform can see what you’re up to.
