What is Liminal Space?
Liminal Space is a 3D puzzle game made in only 6 weeks by Tummen Upp Games, 14 students at The Game Assembly in Malmö. This was our second game project and was developed in Unity with the limitation that it had to run on a decade old tablet which forced us to put a lot of emphasis on performance and optimization. Our reference game was the mind-bending mobile indie-hit Monument Valley.
What I did
For this project I implemented all the player- and enemy movement. Making sure the characters are always rotated along with the floor or wall they are standing on and following their paths correctly. Also made characters unable to walk through each other and implemented their animations. I participated in the feedback taskforce to and gave them tools in order to tweak the behaviour of the player and enemies.
Reflection
This is the project were taskforces were introduced to us. Using taskforces allowed the group to work a lot more efficiently and make decisions easier, something we struggled with in the beginning. Making a game for such old hardware and software was also interesting, having to find clever ways to squeeze performance was fun!
